As architecture students, we would do sun-path diagrams to see how much light would fall in a given interior.
The same geometry produces sundials, usually thought of as something decorative because their function of telling the time was superseded by the clock.
The sundial as a time-teller, simplifies the value of the geometric relationship between the sun and the earth.
Monumental sundials re-introduce the scale that is missing in the garden sundial and allow us once again to value the geometry of the cosmos.
